Economic Development Consultant, Japan Office

Our Strategy & Execution practice team works with clients’ leadership teams to develop and execute their market entry or market expansion strategies from initial market opportunity, matchmaking and business case assessments; to location strategy and site selection; real estate and investment incentives negotiations and managing the construction and start-up of commercial operations.

Our Corporate Finance practice provides advisory services as well as buy-side and sell-side private banking for clients undertaking M&A and identifying, vetting and negotiating joint ventures.

Our Economic Development practice provides advice to governments and multi-lateral organizations on how to develop strategies for attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) and promoting trade through our Economic Development practice. Each of our practice lines strengthens the other.

Working within our Economic Development practice via remote office location. The role is focused on delivering investment attraction services to Tractus’ government clients in the Japan and around the world.  The Consultant will work in a team environment based in the Osaka/Kobe region as well as with our other global offices.

The consultant will be a key contributor to multiple Advisory projects and business development activities.

  • Work in a team environment and ensure clear and efficient communication
  • Understand and work efficiently to project scope of work and key deliverables
  • Understand client requirements and value propositions and convert into meaningful results
  • Assist in developing market and company research that provides investment opportunities for client – Identify company and sector growth indicators
  • Leverage digital tools and CRM to identify and build target groups of corporate investors
  • Develop location pitch messaging for written and verbal communication
  • Identify and review the appropriate client marketing materials to assist in selling the location
  • Research companies to understand their potential for business expansion and interest in client locations
  • Manage campaigns focused on client requirements and deliverables
  • Contact decision makers in target companies to discuss their expansion plans and determine their interest in specific investment locations.
  • Attend industry events where necessary to build network and identify investment leads
  • Track all work via CRM and other reporting systems
  • Develop investor profiles for the client
  • Contribute to client communications and monthly reporting
  • Assist in business development activities including outreach, prospect development and proposal writing
  • Contribute to division development initiatives
  • Collaborate with other divisions on companywide activities
  • Build knowledge on corporate expansion and foreign direct investment

  • At least two years of relevant experience in economic development, sales or business development
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Economics or any relevant field
  • Relevant/related work or internship experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills – including phone skills
  • Confidence/experience in in contacting and engaging senior corporate decision makers
  • Experience with online research
  • Ability to summarize large amounts of information into concise briefing notes
  • Excellent time and project management skills
  • Experience with software tools such as:  Microsoft Office, LinkedIn, CRM etc.
  • Willingness to learn/understand various industry sectors and their reasons for expansion
  • Experience or interest in working with international clients and locations
  • Able to work in an international setting and interacting with people from diverse cultures
  • Foreign language skills would be an asset
